On Oct. 11th -13th, The Legends of Bourbon County Festival will be honoring local hometown horse racing legend, CURLIN, who currently stands at Hill ‘n Dale Farm at Xalapa. Bourbon County has a thriving thoroughbred industry and is often referred to as the Thoroughbred Capitol of Kentucky. If you love charming small towns with lots of horse and bourbon history and haven’t visited Paris, KY yet, put it on your bucket list!

American Thoroughbred racehorse , Curlin  was the American Horse of the Year in both 2007 and 2008.

Curlin is named in honor of Charles Curlin, a former slave who according to records in the National Archives enlisted in the U. S. Army’s Colored Troops at Bowling Green in 1864 and served in the Thirteenth Heavy Artillery of the Union Army during the American Civil War.
